W Starej Kuchni Kraków
The restaurant “W Starej Kuchni”
The restaurant “W Starej Kuchni” [The Old Kitchen] is housed in a historic building located at the Street ul. Św. Tomasza No. 8 (approx. 3 minutes’ walk from the Main Market Square). It is a fabulous place, well worth a visit, full of copper utensils, pots and jars brimming with delicacies, where every hidden corner exudes innocent simplicity.
One of the rooms looks like an antique bookstore or a library, and bookshelves painted on the walls create a unique atmosphere. The focal point of the restaurant is a wood-burning stove, where most of the food is prepared. Restaurant’s traditional welcome to all the guests is to serve them flat bread hot from the oven and garlic butter. The restaurant serves excellent Polish cuisine. The chef invites you on a culinary journey starting with excellent steak tartare, herring in apple, onion and cream marinade, through delicious Polish soups, (try the wild mushroom soup with noodles), sour beetroot soup with dumplings, sour rye soup “Stryszawski”, beef tripe and oven-prepared entrees such as shepherd’s “harmoszka” [accordion], extra-large pork shashlik, “mill wheel,” stuffed pork chop and beef steaks, ending with excellent unusual crêpes (palacsinta) or cheesecake with chocolate ganache.
