Church of St Catherine of Alexandria, Krakow
The impressive Gothic church of St Catherine belongs to the Augustinian Order.
Here, painted on the wall of the chapel adjacent to the church on the north side, is a mediaeval fresco: the miraculous painting of Our Mother of Consolation, known as the Comfort to the Sorrowful. Her feast day on 4th September is a traditional Augustinian holiday celebrated since the 15th century. Besides Her, the church’s patron (feast day 25th November) is also venerated in the church as are St Augustine (28th August) and St Rita (22nd May).
