Sunday with OPEN WORKSHOP on the Craft Trail in Nowica!

Warsztaty organizowane na Szlaku Rzemiosła - łyżkarstwo.
This Sunday, 18 August, we are meeting at the Open Workshop in Nowica, along the Gorlice Craft Trail route, where Piotr Michniak will lead spoon carving workshops and shows. This time we meet in the Lemko village of Nowica, lying at the foot of Magura Małastowska peak in the Low Beskids. The Open Workshop also enables participation in the accompanying handicraft workshops – creating toys from hay and painting wooden spoons.

You will learn how the traditional wooden spoons are made directly from one of the last Nowice spoon carver – Piotr Michniak, who makes spoons using the traditional method, i.e. with manual lathe. This method is very difficult and time consuming. He inherited the skill of working with wood from his father, Dymitr, who in turn inherited the skill from his father and so on. Mr. Piotr will be happy to reveal the secrets of his work, tell how it used to be in the old days, everyone will also have the chance to make a spoon or paint it in regional patterns. In addition, together with Piotr's wife, Małgorzata, we will take part in workshops on creating toys from hay, while the youngest ones and not only will paint spoons in regional patterns.

OPEN WORKSHOPS is a series of meetings in craft workshops in the Małopolska region. This is a great opportunity to see craftsmen at work and try your hand at their craft. On August and September weekends, artists from the Małopolska Craft Trail will open their studios and galleries. You will be able to take part in free workshops, try local delicacies and buy beautiful hand-made items. During the OPEN WORKSHOPS, you will be able to learn the secrets of pottery, bobbin lace, spoon-making, tissue paper art, weaving, folk sculpture and other traditional handicraft techniques and materials.  We have ahead of us two months of meetings with extraordinary people in their workshops, in places where they live and work every day – see you at the OPEN WORKSHOPS on the Craft Trail!

The project is carried out with the support of the Małopolskie Voivodeship within the framework of the Hospitable Małopolska open competition for best tourism and financed by the National Centre for Culture as part of the EtnoPolska 2019 Programme.
