Located west of Kraków, in the Krakow Upland, it was created to protect valuable forest complexes, including oak-hornbeam and mixed forests, as well as xerothermic grassland and thicket plants growing on the slopes of hills and limestone rocks.

The landscape consists of logging hills built of Jurassic limestones. One of the attractive places is the valley of the Rudno stream, after which the park was named. It is also worth spending a few moments in Alwernia, which captivates with the historic wooden buildings of its market
