Gdów lies in the valley of the River Raba, at the foot of the hill on which the Shrine of Dziekanowice was built.
The miraculous painting of the Our Lady of Gdów is kept in the local church. It is an 18th century copy of a mediaeval painting. The worship of Our Lady of Gdów dates back at least to the 15th century when, according to the local lore, Our Lady of Gdów twice saved the life of King Ladislaus of Varna. In 2004, the Church acquired the status of a Marian Shrine. Recently, Rosary Paths for pilgrims were opened near the church. Marian feasts take place on the 8th of September (the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary), the 8th of December (the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary), and the 17th of June (Feast of St Brother Albert).
