Wysoka Pieniny

Wysoka Pieniny

Zielone łąki, wzgórza porośnięte lasem widziane z góry.

34-460 Szczawnica Tourist region: Pieniny i Spisz

Wysoka is the highest peak of the Pieniny Mountains. It rises to a height of 1,050 metres above sea level. The official name is Wysokie Skałki, and it lies on the Polish-Slovak border.

Although this is the highest mountain of the Pieniny, it belongs to their part called Small Pieniny. The whole mountain is covered with forest, and only the top has the character of a rock dome protruding above the line of spruce forest. It offers impressive views of the Tatras, Babia Góra, the Radziejowa Range, Spiš Magura, the Levoča Mountains and the Pieniny Mountains. A trip to Wysoka most often starts in Szczawnica or Jaworki. Beginning in Jaworki, the green trail leads through the picturesque Homole Gorge and Polanę pod Wysoką. The 3.9 km walk should take around 2.5 hours. Families with children and tourists visiting the Pieniny Mountains for the first time often chose this route. The yellow and blue trails to Wysoka run along the ridge of the Small Pieniny Mountains from Szczawnica through Szafranówka, Pod Huściawą, then through the junction below Wysoki Wierch, Durbaszka. The crossing time is about 4.5 hours, and the difficulty level of the route is relatively easy. Another attractive alternative is a trip starting at the entrance to the White Water Reserve in Jaworki, from where you follow the yellow trail. It will take you through the whole reserve to the Rozdziela Pass, where the yellow trail joins the blue trail. Walking time is about 4.5 hours, and hiking requires a little more effort. The hiking trails on Wysoka are well-prepared. The final ascent of Wysoka is quite demanding, so caution is advised. There are railings on the path and steps leading to a metal viewing platform on the summit.
