In the picturesque scenery of the Beskid Wyspowy Mountains, approximately 8 km north of Limanowa, you can find the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Pasierbiec.
The origins of the Shrine are connected with the chapel built by Jan Matras of Laskowa. When serving in the Austrian army in 1793, Matras was wounded in the battle of Rastatt on the Rhine and he called to the Mother of God for help. Thanking for his salvation, he made a solemn vow to build a chapel for Mary, which he did in Pasierbiec in 1822. The chapel quickly became an important pilgrimage destination and was extended by appending a wooden nave. Thanks to the efforts of the parish priest of Tymbark, a feast was established for the new site of worship where the painting of Our Lady was placed. The painting was crowned in 1993 by Bishop Józef Życiński. Today, near the old chapel, you find a modern church, Marian Paths, the stations of the Way of the Cross, and a spacious Pilgrims’ House. The feasts in Pasierbiec fall on the last Saturday and Sunday of August, on the Day of Pentecost, and on the 8th of December, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
