Dried Plum Day in Kąty (Iwkowa Commune)

Suszone śliwki w miseczce
The mayor of the Iwkowa Commune and the Communal Culture Centre in Iwkowa invite you to attend the Dried Plum Day on 15th September. On that day, to the sounds of local bands’ music, an attempt will be made to beat the Guinness Record in the quantity of prepared pierogis with dried plums!

The Dried Plum Day has been held annually since 2001. The aim of the event is to promote dried plum as a regional product and to popularise the tourist and landscape values of the Iwkowa Commune. The commune is famous for ‘susorki iwkowskie’ – a local fruit mixture characterised by unique flavour and aroma. The fruit drying plants are located in Dobrociesz, Kąty, Wojakowa and Drużkowo Puste. These places are also a part of the Dried Plum Route – an unusual way of presenting the sightseeing values of the commune and promoting the regional product.

The event will begin with a Holy Mass in the church in Kąty. During the Dried Plum Day at the stadium of KS Olimpia Kąty, you can also watch an ecological performance ‘Paradise Island’ as a part of the Ecochildren in an Ecocommune project and a performance of the magician Mr “Li”, and, finally, enjoy yourself during a dance party with the Summer Band. Children will have a good time at the funfair, and tasty food, a stand with dried fruit and regional products and a prize draw will be available to everyone. On that day, you will also have an opportunity to sightsee traditional fruit drying plants in a special “Plum Bus”.
