It is one of the largest museums in Poland presenting the art and culture of Africa. It contains exhibits illustrating the everyday life of West and Central African tribes.
You can admire here the everyday equipment, costumes, ritual masks, musical instruments, amulets, sculptures and jewellery, as well as weapons from various regions of Africa. The collection is dominated by the art of West African tribes of Tuaregs and Dogons. The museum in Olkusz, compared to other Africanist institutions, is distinguished by the authenticity of the objects collected. The museum was founded in 1971 thanks to donations given by Bogdan Szczygieł – founder of the institution, a physician form Olkusz who spent several years in Africa.
